Use of Watermouth Castle Outdoor Community Space

Watermouth Castle is pleased to offer free use of its outdoor battlements & lakeside field area to support local groups, charities and businesses. Please note the following terms apply:

1. Space available
• The offer applies only to the Lakeside field and battlements area at Watermouth Castle, including the area around the entrance and extending to the side of the castle.
• No indoor access to Watermouth Castle, rides or attractions is included as part of this offer.

2. Eligibility
• This opportunity is intended for local community groups, charities and businesses.
• All proposed events are subject to approval by Watermouth Castle.

3. Cost
• Use of the outdoor space is free of charge.
• Any additional costs (e.g. toilets, equipment hire, staffing, insurance, licences) are the responsibility of the event organiser.

4. Facilities & services
• Toilet facilities are available at a cost
• Catering:
– Our on-site catering van may be available by prior agreement
– External catering must be agreed in advance
• Power, water and waste disposal are not provided unless agreed in advance.

5. Access to the Castle
• Entry into the castle and attractions is not included.
• Visitors must hold a valid admission ticket to access chargeable areas.

6. Insurance & compliance
• Organisers must hold appropriate public liability insurance.
• All events must comply with relevant health & safety, food hygiene and licensing regulations.

7. Set-up & clear-down
• Set-up and breakdown times must be agreed in advance.
• The area must be left clean and tidy.

8. Promotion & branding
• Events must be promoted as hosted by the organiser, with Watermouth Castle listed as the venue.
• Use of the Watermouth Castle name/logo must be agreed.

9. Right to refuse or cancel
• Watermouth Castle reserves the right to refuse or cancel events due to weather, safety or operational reasons.

10. Event timing (off-peak only)
• Events may take place during school term time only, including weekdays and weekends.
• Events cannot take place during school holidays, bank holidays or holiday weekends.
• All dates are subject to approval and availability.

We’re open to a wide range of community-focused outdoor events, including:

  • Dog shows and pet events
  • Farmers’ and produce markets
  • Artisan or makers’ markets
  • Small festivals or themed days
  • Charity and community gatherings

Yes — the outdoor space itself is free to use. However, organisers are responsible for any additional requirements such as toilets, equipment, insurance or licences.

The spaces available includes the battlements directly outside the main castle entrance, extending around the side of the building, as well as the lakeside field area located at the side of the castle.

Yes — access to toilet facilities in the courtyard area can be provided by prior agreement at an additional cost per event. Alternatively, event organisers may arrange their own toilet provision if preferred.

Yes, but only with a valid admission ticket. Entry to the castle is not included as part of the community space offer.

Potentially, yes — but this must be agreed in advance. We also have an on-site catering van which may be available by arrangement.

No — organisers will need to provide their own equipment unless otherwise agreed in advance.

Yes — free parking is available on site for event organisers and visitors, subject to capacity and event size.

We recommend getting in touch as early as possible, especially for larger events or those needing additional facilities.

Community events can take place during off-peak periods only, which means school term time.

Events can be held on weekdays or weekends during term time, but not during school holidays or holiday weekends.

Yes — weekends are absolutely fine, as long as they fall within term time and not during any school holiday period.

Yes. To manage visitor demand during our busiest times, community events cannot take place during school holidays, including the weekends that fall within those periods.
