NEW for 2026 - Pumpkins at the Castle

Something brand-new is coming to North Devon this autumn… and things are about to get very orange at Watermouth Castle.

From Saturday 26th September, thousands of pumpkins will begin taking over the Castle and grounds for our first-ever Pumpkins at the Castle - a new family autumn event filled with pumpkins, seasonal displays and plenty of opportunities to explore.

And this one has been a little while in the making!

The Castle is getting an autumn makeover

We survived the summer holidays (just!) and there's certainly no rest for the Watermouth team.

Behind the scenes, September is all about transforming the Castle for autumn. Thousands of pumpkins are arriving, displays are being built around the grounds, scarecrows are taking up residence and our Courtyard Pumpkin Market is getting ready to open.

The idea is simple: we wanted to do autumn a little differently this year and create something that the whole family can enjoy together.

Think family fun rather than fright.

So, what can you expect?

As you explore Watermouth Castle, look out for:

• 🎃 Pumpkin-filled walkways
• 📸 Autumn photo spots
• 🌾 A family trail around the Castle and grounds
• 🎃 Courtyard Pumpkin Market
• 🍂 Seasonal displays and plenty of autumn surprises

And, of course, you'll be able to pick your favourite pumpkin to take home from the market.

There'll be even more seasonal fun on selected dates, including marshmallow toasting on weekends and additional family entertainment during October Half Term.

And this is North Devon in autumn, after all! Come rain or shine, the pumpkins aren't going anywhere - our displays and autumn transformation will be waiting to be explored.

More than pumpkins…

This is the important bit.

Pumpkins at the Castle isn't just a pumpkin patch.

Your visit is still a full day out at Watermouth Castle, so alongside all the autumn fun you can explore the rides, Hobbledown Bay, Marble Runs, gardens, museums, dungeons, Illusion Museum and all the wonderfully weird things hidden around the Castle and its 17-acre grounds.

And don't forget the dog! Watermouth Castle is dog-friendly, so four-legged family members can join you for your autumn adventure too.

Pumpkins at the Castle is included as part of your general admission ticket, with pumpkins and additional seasonal purchases charged separately.

When is Pumpkins at the Castle?

The fun begins on Saturday 26th September, with Pumpkins at the Castle running across the autumn and even more happening at weekends and throughout October Half Term.

The pumpkins and autumn displays will remain around the Castle throughout the event period, so there will still be plenty to discover when visiting on one of our quieter opening days too.

Our opening weekend on 26th & 27th September is extra special because it also happens to be our Locals Weekend.
